the 9th edition of art now fine art fair comes to a close

Sunday, September 22, 2024 marked the end of the in-person portion of the 9th annual Art Now Fine Art Fair. Art Now 2024 was held at Prairieland Park, Hall E in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. There were hundreds of original artworks for sale from eleven Saskatchewan exhibitors, showcasing a diverse line up of artists and artwork.

The 9th edition of Art Now began on Thursday, September 19 with a well-attended reception, where attendees chatted with the gallerists, listened to Patrick Moon Bird as they browsed the artwork, and enjoyed refreshments and appetizers.

Several attendees won great door prizes that were generously donated by the participating galleries, the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Regina Symphony Orchestra.

Artist talks began mid-day Friday, and ran throughout the weekend. Attendees were able to listen to several local artist talks, including Diane Larouche Ellard, Michaela Hoppe, Olivia Maney, Paula Cooley, Sandra Knoss, Lorenzo Dupuis, Kathy Bradshaw, Linsey Levendall, Miranda Jones, and Cindy Wright.

On the evening of September 20, Art Now hosted the first Friday Art Night Out, which featured live jazz music from the Weber-Graham Duo, live artist demonstrations, and Happy Hour at the fair concession and lounge. Participating artists included: Nicki Ault, Connie Chaplin, Michaela Hoppe, Kaylee Langen, Linsey Levendall, Lindsey Love, Keitha McClocklin, Michelle Plett and Paul Lapointe.

On Saturday, the Saskatchewan Craft Council presented a panel session on '‘Technology & Craft” in the afternoon. Moderated by Brandon Golding, panelists on the integration of new technologies in fine craft included Wendy Lloyd, Jacob Semko, Jenny Ly, and Jason Macza.

On Sunday the 22nd, the Saskatoon Glassworkers Guild (alongside the Saskatchewan Craft Council) hosted a make-and-take Glass Tile Mosaic Workshop for all ages, as part of Sask Culture Days activities. Plus, like other years, the Kids’ Creative Zone was active all weekend, and the stART section, which featured emerging artists selected by our participating galleries, was well-received and successful.

Overall, Art Now 2024 welcomed 2,500 in-person visitors, and thousands of online visitors from across Canada to artnow.ca.
